silver linings: mixed media
When a 150 year old fir tree crashed onto my roof and broke it, my studio ceiling fell, rain entered, and a Shahzia Sikander catalog printout and Japanese mineral pigments smashed into a puddle. The way the ink bled and washed away, combined with the red pigment powder, was quite beautiful. I was determined to bring creation out of destruction, to reclaim and restore myself, my home, and my studio. I added gouache droplets and calligraphic gestural marks. Sixteen paintings came from a catastrophe that was also a fortunate accident.
