Making a Difference: Art and Meditation
During troubling times, I’m very aware of and follow what’s happening--- but keep my focus on my 50+ years of meditation practice to radiate a positive influence into the environment and on the similar vibratory effect of my artwork. My art is unconnected to contemporary history except as a means of uplifting and showing the peace and beauty that still exist within each moment, despite turmoil in the world.
We as humans need this to survive, navigate, flourish, and contribute. Instead of reminding you of appalling things, I’d rather my art bring you into the present moment, the timeless, the sublime. My goal is to create work that enlivens consciousness, nourishes the soul, heals, and evokes happiness and wholeness. From there you can take more powerful and effective action to create positive change.
I create lyrical, gestural abstraction with floral/botanical images, calligraphic elements, and floating motifs in gouache, watercolor, pastels, sumi ink, colored pencils, and mineral pigments. These paintings convey my interest in the nourishment available in subtle levels of creation, meditation states, and the capturing of nature’s essence and energy. I aim to express the unseen source, its beauty, wonder, and radiance so that it can uplift, enliven, and ground your inner life.
